Young Arts Rutland Poppy Project Display at Oakham Castle - Commemoration of the Centenary of the end of the Great War 1918 – 2018 As part of our commitment to Young Arts, The Arts Society Oakham presented awards to seven students of Catmose College who contributed ‘over and above’ to this community art work project.  Field of poppies at Oakham Castle Inspired by Vickie Goddard, ceramics teacher at Catmose College, and based on the original work by Paul Cummins at the Tower of London, the grass areas in the castle grounds are now covered with over ten thousand individually handcrafted poppies made in schools, community groups and businesses in Rutland. All the poppies were glaze-fired at Catmose College and Oakham School and three poppies also adorn each of the large commemorative horseshoes that were commissioned to stand at the war memorials in every church in Rutland. The display was formally opened to the public on Sunday 21 October, when the horseshoes were collected by church representatives, and will be available to view until 24 November. Thereafter the poppies will be for sale, with proceeds to go to The Royal British Legion.  Oakham Castle The Arts Society Oakham congratulates everyone that was involved with this wonderful display and particularly the young people who contributed so magnificently.      Chairman Peter Morris and Vice Chairman Jill Harris More photographs can be viewed on:  https://photos.app.goo.gl/RuA2iWbYntksZkReA YOUNG ARTS ROADSHOW “Seven Decades of Educational Toys and Techniques” The aims of the project were to promote good quality arts experiences for young people in Rutland and strengthen links between Rutland schools and the professional community of artists in the county. Using the theme of seven decades of secondary education (reflecting the 75th anniversary of Casterton Business & Enterprise College), Rutland Primary School pupils were asked to take an imaginary leap into the future of schools. This was expressed in relief models and drawings of the interior of a school. We are currently seeking someone who is interested in working with children and art to take on the role of Young Arts representative. If you are interested in finding what it entails please send us an email.
